Marconi 100 Year Transatlantic Celebrations 1901-2001


On 12th December 1901 Marconi achieved a major milestone with the first successful radio transmission across the Atlantic from Poldhu in Cornwall, to Newfoundland in Canada.

The Centenary in 2001 was commemorated in Chelmsford by several events including 2MT at New street, a visit by Princess Elettra Marconi-Giovanelli (Marconi's daughter) and unveiling of town signs

Chelmsford Weekly News - Dec-2001

Chelmsford Borough Council requested CARS to arrange a Special Event Station in the centre of Chelmsford. CARS arranged with the RSGB that their GB4FUN mobile demonstration vehicle would be active by the Shire Hall in the High Street.
