October Meeting
Tuesday 7th Oct 2025, 7:30pm
Danbury Village Hall"CARS AGM"
By CARS MembersThe CARS Annual General Meeting took place on Tuesday October-7th at Danbury Village Hall where it was pleasing to see a higher than average turnout. A set of slides helped the evening agenda and club officers present some of the past years activities and accounts.
This covered the successful GB90CH radar anniversary event, missing IMD; and the sad passing of Colin G0TRM for which there was minute silence. The training, treasurers and membership reports showed we were still in a fairly good position, but the small committee was stretched, concerned re participation levels and needed additional volunteers.
Following the officer’s reports, CARS President John Bowen G8DET gave some remarks and nostalgia, and then oversaw the election of the new Committee for 2025/6:
On the night the result was below...
However shortly afterwards we were also pleased to welcome:
- Treasurer - John O'Connell M0JOC
- Membership - Andrew Kersey G0IBN
- QSL Manager - Paul Tittensor G4PVM
- Training - John O'Connell M0JOC
- Equipment - VACANT
- Chairman - Elliot Riddle M0JBY
- Secretary - Paul Tittensor G4PVM
- Newsletter - VACANT
- Programme Secretary - VACANT
The good turnout led to a very sociable occasion, helped by the raffle, our usual supply of tea/coffee and biscuits. The SK surplus items also attracted good interest - our thanks to all!
- Equipment - David Ingrey M0HBV
- Nets coordinator - Keith Law G3WGE
November Meeting
Tue 4-Nov-2025, 7.30-9pm
Danbury Vilage Hall"Practical Night"
By CARS MembersIn a change of plan, November was a practical skills evening, whilst Andy Tyler's LF talk has been re-scheduled to be in 2026.
Coordinated by John M0JOC, the emphasis was hands-on, based on our popular kits; follow by a discussion on the recent Ofcom Phase-2/3 licence and callsign changes.
The photo below shows a very diligent bunch assembling and soldering kits.
- Kit Building: FM Radio, Morse Tutor, IR-Barrier Alarm, Signal lamp/torch
- Soldering: Practice, PL259 Coax Connector assembly
- Ofcom: Callsign Changes - all about Ofcom Phase-2/3 (and beyond)
Regarding Ofcom - we heard how the M8/M9 changes were already popular for many Intermediates, whilst some Full licensees were also changing so they could optimise their CW-ID. Bear in mind that any callsign change starts an automatic revocation of any other lower calls you may have.
Overall the good turnout led to a very enjoyable occasion, helped by the raffle, our usual supply of tea/coffee and biscuits. Our thanks to all! . The next similar session is expected to be our January-2026 meeting.
