Chelmsford Ideas Festival - October 2015 |
Introduction
As part of Chelmsford Ideas Festival, CARS were present at Sandford Mill on Wednesday 28th October afternoon supporting their event with an interactive demonstration of 'Mechanical Morse'.
The display is a great attraction for children; using a machine-like typewriter, to impress their names in Morse code on to paper tape, which is then audibly read out and decoded by other machines. The briefing note below we created for the event gives more about this:-

Wednesday 28th Oct-2015
The morse display at Sandford Mill covered both hand-sent and mechanically generated Morse code. This caught the attention of quite a number of the youngsters whom visited the Museum on the day. They were almost matched by several members from the older generation, in some cases reliving their past use of Morse on a professional basis or just their first experience of hands-on Morse key in operation, which all seemed to enjoy. Although the event was only a short afternoon session it proved both enjoyable and worthwhile.
