Having spent his working life at BT, after retirement, Clive was well known for his efforts as CARS Training Manager / Exam Secretary. In total Clive managed over 300 candidates thru 30+ Foundation courses - as well as ~200 thru Intermediate and Advance, including extra mentoring and practical tuition.

In addition to training, Clive was also a key Essex Repeater Group supporter, becoming Treasurer and latterly Chairman - and in his spare time a keen Echolink and 6m-DX enthusiast, as well as a devoted grandfather...

A picture courtesy of Trevor M5AKA shows Clive on his favourite training slot, introducing the Nature of Amateur Radio at the beginning of Foundation Course-16 (on 10-Jan-2008). His passing came a day after Course-32 had started.

In 2015 Clive featured in TX Factor Episode-9 (released a few days before his sad passing). Bob McCreadie G0FGX who produces the TX Factor Show asked for this message to be passed on: "I can imagine how shocked and saddened you all are, please pass our condolences to his family and friends."

It was with utter shock that I learnt of Clive's passing as Frances and I were going out the door on holiday. More so as I had spoken to Clive the previous night at 10.15pm.

Clive's passing leaves us all with a great sadness. Behind the scene he worked very hard to make CARS 'Training the Nation' - a widely renown Training Centre.

He was also involved in many non-radio activities and these organisations have also lost one of it's stalwarts.

My condolences go to his family.

Carl Thomson, CARS President.
