Science Discovery Day - Oct-2017

Sandford Mill Sunday Oct-22nd, 10am – 4pm Fun for all the family!

CARS was at the October Science Discovery Day which had a space and communications theme: “Discover Space and Beyond”

Chris G0IPU coordinated activities which were largely based in The Barn where there was DF, rockets, snap-circuits, radio controlled moon-buggy cars and 2m VHF. The rockets were undoubtedly the most popular item with the hundreds of children! Meanwhile in the main building there was also an opportunity for to try a hand at HF Operating, and some of the bands were really busy with JOTA stations which were on the same weekend.

Visitors could take a journey into space with the visiting planetarium. Displays included brand new tech from Teledyne e2v who do CCDs that are used on space missions. Other displays included live Marconi TV Cameras, light and sound experiments, coding & more!

The Barn

Chris G0IPU had family and assistants prepping rockets. CARS had cars and there was a VHF radio station going as well.

Fun all round...

John G8DET arived earlier and was stunned by how busy it was. People told him they were queuing for 30 minutes at 10am. The traffic filled both access roads. Tim Wander told him they had over a 1,000 before 11am!
