Essex Skills Night - May-2018 |
Monday evening, 7pm May 21st 2018, was Essex Skills Night, run and hosted by the CARS Training Team. A fine light evening saw quite a number of people attend for a combinatin of demos, socialising and some training practicals (assisting both Foundation and Iintermediate candidates).
Some of the Attendees at May Skills NightActivities included:-
- Radio: Perry M6XPD was demonstrating the clubs new IC-7100 HF/D-Star radio
- Radio: Keith G3WGE returned this month with a demo of Yaesu C4FM Fusion and Wires-X

- PSK31 / EchoLink: Jim Salmon 2E0RMI was present to assist and demo these modes.

- CARS Club Table: Pauline M6XPK ran the ChelmsfordARS table for signing-in, Club Membership and Course Enquiries
- Slim Jims: Peter M0PSD was supervising practicals in the Hawkins Room where he also had Slim Jim kits. Geoff 2E0JEF from TARG was amongst those who had a go.

- Badges: Jim 2E0JTW and Glynis 2E0CUQ brought their engraver for custom callsign badges
- Essex CW: The team were again present with a demo and advice on Morse.
- ThamesARG: Mark M0IEO brought another demonstration to help those new to our hobby grasp the fundamentals of radio. This month Mark had an oscilloscope set up in the room with his KX3 radio attached to show the difference between an amplitude and frequency modulated signals. It was also a good chance to see just how useful an oscilloscope can be in amateur radio.

Refreshments: Tea and coffee will be on offer too, thanks to our team in the kitchen, keeping customers happy! - Donations are most appreciated

Skills does not happen by itself, so we are open to offers for demos etc from both CARS members and other clubs/amateurs.If you want a table for a demo do email us beforehand and we will fit you in.
Skills is a great opportunity to get "hands-on" with aerials, datamodes, construction, our famous Quiz and more. A variety of "show and tell" tables with something for the new and experienced Ham alike.
As always, various members of CARS, and other local groups/clubs will be on hand to help with questions, as well as volunteers in the kitchen doing the tea/coffee and nibbles.

Skills Night takes place at the Danbury Village Hall – Entrance is free, and the event is open to all. Tea/coffee is also available.
